Whilst my research topics might at first seem quite disparate, what unites them is a commitment to thinking through aspects of existence that are unwilled or unforeseen: dimensions of life that we have less control over than we might have assumed. I'm therefore really interested in ideas of passivity in a variety of different empirical contexts. Following this, I'm really interested in how theories that draw on ideas of affectand emotion can help us to make sense of our everyday lives.

At various points in my academic career I've been a human geographer and a sociologist — but I'm not a great believer in disciplinary boundaries. What excites me is thinking about how society happens, holds together and changes.
